About Vessel Operations

Mermaid Marine operates a diverse fleet of vessels that include platform supply vessels, multi-purpose survey vessels, anchor handling and harbour tugs, barges and accommodation vessels. Over thirty vessels are owned and operated in Australia and internationally.

About the role

A unique opportunity has arisen for a diligent and personable leader to fill the position of Master for an offshore tug and barge operation. In this role, you will assist Mermaid Marine’s vessel operations by performing the duties of a Master and towing a 400ft barge for a major WA based oil and gas project.

Essential to your success in the role will be your ability to build collaborative relationships as well as being able exert a strong sense of leadership and empowerment to your crew.

Duties

Your key accountabilities will include:

• Addressing and resolving all matters affecting the safety of the officers, crew, passengers, vessel, cargo and the protection of the environment
• Ensuring the vessel is navigated, operated and maintained in accordance with Flag, Statutory Rules and Regulations, and company instructions
• Implementing the company's policies and procedures on board the vessel
• Acting as the first point of contact for any human resources issues including performance management of the officers and crew in accordance with company policies and procedures

Skills and Experience

To be considered for positions within Mermaid Marine, you must:

• Place importance in health, safety, security and the environment above all other requirements
• Have a minimum of an STCW Masters <3000gt Unlimited Certificate of Competency
• Have a minimum of 10 years as Master of an ocean going tug / support vessel
• Have a minimum of 5 years as Master on vessels over 7,000BHP
• Have a minimum 5 years' experience as Master towing large barges (500 to 650 feet long and between 25,000 to 35,000 DWT)
• Double tow experience (minimum 10 voyages)
• Two wire towing experience
• Hold a valid Maritime Industry Security Card (MISC)
• Hold a valid Passport with a minimum of 6 months currency
• Hold a valid AMSA Medical Certificate or equivalent
• Experience with quarantine (client requirement)
