Job Description:

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency implements the Government’s responsibility towards maritime safety in the UK and works to prevent loss of life on the coast and at sea. Our Maritime Safety and Standards Directorate is responsible for inspecting and surveying ships and commercial large yachts to ensure they meet UK and international safety standards. We also provide certification to seafarers, register vessels and respond to pollution from shipping and offshore installations.

 

Your part in all this, will be to help us meet the Government’s maritime strategy for Safer Ships and Cleaner Seas – ensuring that our business plans are successfully fulfilled and that our high standards are promoted and enforced. With your help, we’ll continue to minimize loss of life amongst seafarers and coastal users, and to reduce pollution by ships as well.

You’ll be working with a high degree of autonomy, making vital decisions to help ensure safer ships and cleaner seas. From assisting the Principal Fishing Vessel Surveyor to carrying out essential surveys, audits, inspections and enforcement activity, you’ll transform safety standards. What’s more, you will act as a local customer service manager, lead surveyor and technical expert – advising the public and colleagues across the organisation, approving ships plans and investigating complaints that arise.

Alongside considerable experience within the maritime industry, you must have a comprehensive understanding of the latest regulations and technical approaches. Strong customer service and relationship building skills will the essentials too.

Each application will need to be supported by a CV and evidence of sufficient experience in a managerial role onboard ship or in a technical capacity of responsibility within the maritime industry.
