Balmoral Offshore Engineering, a division of Balmoral Group, provides surface and subsurface buoyancy, insulation and elastomer products and services to the global energy, defence, subsea communications and oceanographic industries.

We are looking for a Lead QC Inspector to join the team. Supporting the Quality Engineer, the Lead QC Inspector is responsible for leading the team of QC Inspectors to meet all Inspection requirements throughout the production processes from goods in to final release of Balmoral Comtec products. The lead QC Inspector is also responsible for the training and development of the QC Inspection team including promoting the “Right First Time” philosophy to both the inspection team and all other Balmoral Comtec Employees during the course of their daily work. The position will also be responsible for assisting the Balmoral management team in the effective management of 3rd party Inspectors when on site.

Main Duties:
 

  • Promote the awareness of quality principles and concepts including the Right First Time philosophy.
  • Effective Management and control of 3rd party Inspectors on site
  • Lead the team of QC Inspectors in relation to requirements of routine inspection.
  • Preventing the escape of non-conformities.
  • Ensure that incoming, first-off and final inspections are carried out against component specifications in a timely manner, while ensuring Safety/ Housekeeping and Quality procedures are followed for all QC personnel.

  • Authorise release or rejection of manufactured components at inspection release stage.
  • Identify product inspection status & maintain records of inspected components
  • Assist the Quality Engineer/QA/QC Manager in the investigation of inspection problems and scrap components to the root cause.
  • Effective supervision of traceability audits for all areas of the production processes.
  • Creation of component inspection instructions in conjunction with the projects & engineering teams
  • Provide other quality reports as required
  • Promote product and customer awareness among quality staff, including customer complaints.
  • Work with Management supporting a defined framework for reasonable standards of discipline
  • Train the QC Inspection team to a level required to ensure internal and external customer requirements are met and promote continual improvement.
  • Maintain Calibration status of all in house measuring / testing equipment.

Skills and experience

Qualifications

Desirable:        

  • Qualified to internal auditor level.

     

Experience

Required:         

  • Min 2 years prior experience in selected discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Proven organizational and communicational skills.

  • Proven track record of strong personnel supervisory and 3rd party management skills.

     

    Desirable:        

  • Ideally Formal Supervisory/ Leadership Training or Qualifications and Experience.

     

     

Skills/Training

Required:

  • Must be able to read manufacturing geometrical drawings.

  • Understanding of tolerances, limits & fits

  • Computer literate, especially in MS Office packages.

  • Well developed organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.

  • A can do / will do approach to work.

  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Good numeracy skills.

  • Understanding of calibration requirements.

  • Good presentation skills.
