Fairmount Marine, was established in 1980. Over the last 30 years it has developed into a world class marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation by (submersible) barge, parallel to activities in the field of sales & purchase, brokerage and other related services. In May 2007 Louis Dreyfus Armateurs SAS of Paris acquired the company and thus Fairmount became a subsidiary company of this leading French ship-owner whose business activities and knowledge span more than a century.
Today Fairmount Marine is the world leader in the field of long distance towing of the largest and most valuable objects afloat, such as caissons, FPSOs and semi-submersible drilling rigs. In order to meet the highest quality standards imposed by its worldwide clientele Fairmount Marine operates five 205 tonnes bollard pull long distance towing vessels with anchor handling capabilities which were all built at Niigata Shipyard in Japan between 2005 and 2007.

Fairmount Marine operates the largest semi-submersible barge in the world, the 50,000 dwt GAVEA LIFTER (ex ZHONG REN 3).
